There are plenty of healthy low-cost foods that we could choose to eat and most of them are on the "WIC" approved foods you will find in the grocery store--beans, rice, eggs, grains, soy products, fresh or frozen fruits/veggies, milk, canned fish(tuna or salmon). "Americans are spending a smaller share of their income (or corresponding amount of effort) on food than any other society in history or anywhere else in the world, yet get more for it."
